DEVELOPMENT OF TEST RIG FOR CLAMPING FORCE SYSTEM OF ELECTRO-MECHANICAL CVT

Abstract- The project presents experiments that closely resemble its title to develop a clamping force system on the Electro-Mechanical Dual Acing Pulley (EMDAP) Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) test rig. Based on background studies it is found that EMDAP CVT is intend to replace the CVT systems that are using hydraulic pumps to brushless DC (BLDC) motors. The main purpose is to reduce the power at minimum levels for clamping force on adequate spring discs. However, there is a problem whether the existing BLDC motor specification on the test rig is suitable to be use. Hence, there are other alternatives to get the most suitable BLDC motor that can be used for the EMDAP CVT test rig so as can withstand the sufficient clamping force on the spring discs. Additionally, it is very important that an early preparation can be done so that experiments can run smoothly, helping to minimize problems and give more understanding about EMDAP CVT. Therefore, the results indicate that there is a BLDC motor model that is on the market with the most appropriate specifications, dimensions and prices to be use on EMDAP CVT test rig later.
